How Alert makes money
Last updated 3 October 2026
The short version. You pay us a small subscription, and sometimes a shop pays us a small commission when you buy. Neither changes the price you pay or the alerts you get.
Subscription
Alert will cost a low subscription. We’ll announce the price at launch, and you’ll see it clearly before you pay. If you subscribe through the Apple or Google app store, they keep a share of what you pay.
Commission from shops
Some links to shops are affiliate links. If you tap one and buy, the shop may pay us a commission, usually a small percentage of the sale. The shop pays it out of its own margin. It doesn’t add anything to your price.
How you can tell
Every shop button in the app is marked Ad, because UK advertising rules say affiliate links must be clearly labelled. Alerts don’t contain links. Tapping one opens the app, where you decide whether to visit the shop.
What commission never changes
- The price you pay. It’s the same with or without Alert.
- Which price we show you. We show the cheapest in-stock price at the shops we watch, even if another shop would pay us more.
- Whether you get an alert. Your budget decides that, nothing else.
- What we say about a price. We compare with prices we’ve watched ourselves, never with a shop’s “was” price.
Which shops
We get prices from affiliate networks and shops’ own product feeds. We’ll publish the list of shops we watch when the app launches.
